CAPE VERDE WEATHER
The climate of Cape Verde as a whole is classed as dry tropical with an average temperature ranging between 21C to 31C with water temperatures between 22C and 27C.
Cape Verde weather is generally very dry, with no hurricanes, being at the northern limit of the tropical rain-belt. Most of the rain falls between August and October. The rainfall is very low at sea level but increases in the mountainous regions. Sal and Boa vista are particularly dry.
The temperatures in Cape Verde are typically tropical with no cool season, although there is a small range of temperature around the year; the coolest months are December to March. The combination of moderately high temperature and high humidity can be unpleasant, except when this is tempered by the daily sea breeze.
Daily hours of sunshine average from seven to ten and are highest in the months February to June. There is rather more cloud during the rainier months.
There are 2 seasons across the Cape Verde islands, a dry season between November and July and a comparatively moderate humid season between August and October. Daily sunshine averages 6 to 7 hours between August and October and 10 to 12 hours for the rest of the year.
Wind speed averages 13 knots between November and July, dropping to 9 knots in the summer and rainfall averages to around 10 inches, mostly falling over the higher ground. The islands are excellent for wind and kite surfing, particularly during the windier months of February and March.
The ten Cape Verde islands have a total land area of 4,040 sq km/1,560 sq mi. They are situated between 14° to 16° N about 480 km/300 mi off the west coast of Africa. There are also a number of smaller islets.
